Evaluation Toolkit For Refugee and Migrant Representation in the Media

14 June, 2023

By Eleni Kyrillou from RESET

The See Me Hear Me project created an initiative focused on promoting fair and accurate representation of refugees and migrants in the media. As part of this, SEHEME developed an innovative evaluation toolkit which will play a crucial role in assessing the portrayal of migrants across different regions.

The evaluation toolkit is designed to provide a comprehensive set of criteria to judge how migrants are represented in the media. By establishing these criteria, we aim to examine the diverse perspectives and narratives surrounding migration and shed light on any biases present in the media.

We understand that the representation of migrants can vary significantly from one region to another, influenced by cultural, social, and historical factors. Therefore, our evaluation toolkit will take into account these nuances to ensure a comprehensive analysis of media representation across partner countries.

Our project recognizes the importance of understanding both the differences and commonalities in the portrayal of migrants. By studying these regional variations, we can gain valuable insights into the factors that shape media narratives and work towards fostering more accurate and inclusive representations.

The development of the evaluation toolkit is a crucial step towards promoting media literacy and combating misinformation. Through a rigorous evaluation process, we can encourage media outlets to be more accountable and responsible in their portrayal of refugees and migrants.

The SEHEME project is dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of migration-related issues and promoting empathy and inclusivity in our societies. If you want to find out more about our projects and for further updates stay tuned!
